Those coming into set-17 format from TCG should be wary of these new cards. Click a card name to open it's wiki page.
Bajula's Soul
Unlike most Gears which have a supportive role, Bajula's Soul can single-handedly decide duels. If your opponent drops this and catches you unprepared, you might as well forfeit. This card exists to teach duelists not to take gears lightly.
Bolberg Cross Dragon
Not only is it a dragon and speed attacker, but also can cross with any number of gears for free. Most commonly seen with Bajula's Soul, but also comes in many other flavors. Be careful against a gear-heavy opponent and don't let things drag on too long.
Hell's Scrapper
The reason t1 rush isn't that cool anymore. One of the best triggers in the game alongside Holy Awe and Aqua surfer. Teaches assault duelists to focus more on creature power and keep backup plans in-case things go wrong.
Chitta Peloru
This 2/1000 Fire Bird might seem harmless but can deliver pain starting from turn 3 thanks to Magmadragon Gardos. The catch is that it's effect applies to both player's dragons so use that fact to your advantage when facing this card.
Apocalypse day
Cheap and Effective nuke that's also a trigger. Punishes duelists who spam creatures with no set purpose. Easy to work around if you know what you're doing, but a nightmare if you don't.
Heavens Gate
This can come out of nowhere and drop a pair of Triple-Breaking blockers on you. Tread carefully and keep an eye on your opponent's mana zone to see what they might play.
Elupheus, Lord of Spirits
The anti-creature variant of Alcadeias, and possibly more deadly. A creature-heavy deck will not fare well against it. On the other hand, some simple removal can easily deal with it.
Martial Law
The cheapest gear removal there is, and a trigger too. Doesn't matter if its a Bajula's Soul or Grand Cross Catastrophe, this will take it out. It's important to not rely on gears too much, even if running a gear-based deck.
Time Tripper, Shadow of Stagnation
Cheap disruption and manaburn support. T3 time-tripper is the ultimate test for deck stability. Poorly made decks will always have trouble dealing with it. Always make sure your decks have a clear goal and can deal with threats on a short-term notice.
Jenny, The Dismantling Puppet
Most common discard option in the meta due to it's versatility, on the same level as TCG Cranium Clamp. Every strategy or plan must be Jenny-Proof before it's viable.
Dark Hydra, Evil Planet Lord
Borderline overpowered and one of the best recursion options in the game. A single Dark Hydra can revive an entire graveyard from scratch. Expect to see this in armorloid builds and prepare accordingly.
Diablost, the Shady General
Appears harmless at first, since it turns all your creatures into blockers, but it's effect is devastating. Turns a Critical Blade into Terror Pit, Rikabu into a killing machine and Scarlet Skyterror into an Invincible Abyss creature.
Noble Enforcer
Another anti-rush card. Note that it's effect deactivates when it's crossed. Deal with it by keep some high-power stuff or anti-gear cards.
Triple Brain
Cheap and effective means of gaining hand advantage. Don't fear this card, fear what comes after it.
Pulpy Goobie
Effectively replaces Aqua Strummer as a deck-arrangement tool. Expect to see this in manaburns and traditional control decks. Not much you can do against it.
Seventh Tower
Cheap mana acceleration early-game, crazy mana-boost in the late-gate. This is common in manaburns and Alphadios-centered decks. Be prepared to end things quickly before it turns ugly.
Ground Giant
A stable high-power double breaker for only 4 mana. Very common and effective in 3-civ Assaults, especially RUG.
Shaman Totem
Nature now has a powerful draw engine. In some cases, much more Powerful that what water might have to offer. Do not underestimate.
Grave of Angels and Demons
You will see this rarely, but when you do, it will most likely catch you off-guard. Avoid building up a huge manazone and field when you are expecting this. Especiallly hurts charger-heavy builds
Grand Cross Catastrophe
The only evolution gear we all fear. This along with Patrial Flame crossed to a Spiral Grass or La Byle can make an unbreakable defense. This can mean GG depending on your deck. Always prepare some anti-gear in your deck or you will regret it.
