If you've recently joined OCTGN and are unfamiliar with the large card pool or the available formats, you can still make TCG decks easily by using the "Format" property in card search.
Type the following in the "Format" filter to search by format:
> "TCG" - This will only display the TCG cards, so do this if you're making a TCG deck.
About TCG: This is the English format of the game, with first 12 sets, what majority of the new players are familiar with. It includes certain exclusive cards that were never in the Japanese format like Cranium Clamp and Cryptic Totem.
TCG has no deck limit and no banlist, but many people here prefer to keep Bombazaar banned because it's just overpowered and kills the fun.
> "Set17" (or just enter "17") - This will display cards from the first 17 sets(Japanese sets, so no TCG exclusive cards).
About Set17: This format was popular on the now-dead program Kaijudo Portal. Main meta decks included things like RUG Gonta Assault, Mono Water Assault, Bolberg Manaburn, Phal/Alshia-Swap engines, Bolmeteus RUB etc. This is the format closest to the TCG, and is recommended as the next step for TCG players.
Like all Japanese formats, it has a 40 card limit and you have to follow the Set17 banlist.
>"Set35" (or just enter "35") - Entering this will display cards from the first 35 Jp sets.
About Set35: This format was popular for a long time on OCTGN where it was tried and tested. Main meta decks include DN Zerg Rush, LWD Queen Control, Marco Beatdowns etc.
It has a 40 card limit and you have to follow the Set35 banlist.
>"OCG" - The latest up-to-date format. Uses almost all available cards on octgn(the Japanese format).
About OCG: The full fledged game popular in japan. OCTGN is still catching up.
40 card limit, and you have to follow the current ocg banlist.
